This paper introduces an example of a data-driven track irregularity estimation method that has gained attention in recent years. Here, as representative examples, we introduced methods for estimating track irregularities from the vertical acceleration of the carbody and from the bogie acceleration. The proposed methodologies emonstrate the possibility to complement, or even substitute in case of very rare TRV operations, the current maintenance strategy, adopting simple measurement systems installed on commercial vehicle. The adoption of these methodologies are expected to provide benefits in terms of safety, providing as outputs daily estimations of the track conditions.

Abstract

This paper introduces an example of a data-driven track irregularity estimation method that has gained attention in recent years. Here, as representative examples, we introduced methods for estimating track irregularities from the vertical acceleration of the carbody and from the bogie acceleration. The proposed methodologies emonstrate the possibility to complement, or even substitute in case of very rare TRV operations, the current maintenance strategy, adopting simple measurement systems installed on commercial vehicle. The adoption of these methodologies are expected to provide benefits in terms of safety, providing as outputs daily estimations of the track conditions.
