Milano verticale, in principio fu la Velasca: 70 anni con restauro

For some time, Torre Velasca has revealed an inherent vulnerability to the effects of ageing and, above all, a number of limitations in responding to the needs of contemporary society. In 2020, the real estate group Hines, the building’s new owner, in agreement with the cultural heritage authorities and the Municipality of Milan, commissioned a redevelopment project by Asti Architetti in collaboration with CEAS. The intervention on the exterior was conceived with particular attention to the material qualities of the existing building and their cultural significance, while the interior underwent more substantial alterations, involving a reorganisation of the spaces to accommodate retail areas, offices, restaurants, a spa, and residential units.

Già da tempo la Torre Velasca ha mostrato un’intrinseca fragilità al passare del tempo, ma soprattutto numerose criticità nel rispondere alle esigenze della società contemporanea. Nel 2020 il gruppo immobiliare Hines, nuovo proprietario dell’edificio, in accordo con la Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali e con il Comune di Milano, ha promosso il progetto di Asti Architetti che, in collaborazione dello studio CEAS, ha previsto sugli esterni un intervento attento alla materialità del costruito e ai suoi significati, mentre per gli interni opere maggiormente invasive che hanno previsto la ridistribuzione degli spazi articolandoli in spazi commerciali, uffici, ristoranti, spa e residenze.
