Designing a ‘hybrid space’ to support employees working under subordinate employment contracts and flexible working arrangements, while accommodating both productive labour and reproductive and care work, calls for an examination of numerous historical precedents. These precedents have addressed, or in some cases merely envisaged, different ways of reconciling work and personal life, depending on the historical periods and political, social, and economic contexts in which they emerged. Nevertheless, they consistently emphasise the need to relieve individuals, particularly women, of the burdens associated with reproductive and care work, enabling them either to devote more time to productive employment, in accordance with efficiency-oriented or neoliberal ideologies, or to pursue activities more closely aligned with their personal aspirations, as advocated by utopian and feminist perspectives. From both an architectural and a social standpoint, these historical precedents are particularly significant because they identify a complex and contentious issue and seek to address it through purpose-designed spatial and organisational arrangements. Such approaches almost invariably involve the collectivisation of certain services, sometimes supplemented by the introduction of new ones. However, their primary concern is generally the reorganisation and reform of domestic space, with consequent implications for the urban environment, rather than the transformation of workplaces themselves.

Abstract
However, their primary concern is generally the reorganisation and reform of domestic space, with consequent implications for the urban environment, rather than the transformation of workplaces themselves.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
