THE THERMAL CITY. MEMORIES, TRENDS, AND PERSPECTIVES FOR A RENEWED IDENTITY Thermal cities, as early modern tourist destinations, developed around natural resources such as thermal waters and landscapes, establishing themselves as high-quality environmental contexts. Historically, they have benefited from economic and technological investments that shaped their identity, becoming centers of well-being, culture, and innovation. In the 20th century, thermalism underwent profound transformations, evolving from an aristocratic experience to a public healthcare service, with a gradual decline due to the crisis of the mutualistic model. The abandonment of many facilities and the loss of identity have generated economic, social, and cultural challenges. However, thermal cities possess a unique architectural and environmental heritage that can be enhanced through strategies of urban regeneration and sustainable development. The FUTURA project proposes a new model for these cities, based on connectivity, culture, well-being, and multifunctionality, transforming them into hubs of innovation and quality of life. The objective is to reinterpret the role of thermal cities in contemporary society, promoting their revival as centers of culture, health, and tourist appeal.

Abstract
The objective is to reinterpret the role of thermal cities in contemporary society, promoting their revival as centers of culture, health, and tourist appeal.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
