Once created as a repository of histories that would otherwise disappear forever, museums today are much more than depots of cultural goods. They are civic actors, cultural resources, and places where architecture intermediates the encounter between citizens and society. In our recent work on three art museums, KANAL in Brussels, S.M.A.K. in Ghent, and M HKA in Antwerp, we explored this role through three recurring themes: agency, porosity, and representation.

Nati come depositi di storie che altrimenti sarebbero andate perdute per sempre, oggi i musei sono molto più che semplici magazzini di beni culturali. Sono attori civici, risorse culturali e luoghi in cui l’architettura fa da tramite nell’incontro tra cittadini e società. Nel nostro recente lavoro su tre musei d’arte, il KANAL di Bruxelles, lo S.M.A.K. di Gand e l’M HKA di Anversa, abbiamo esplorato questo ruolo attraverso tre temi ricorrenti: agentività, porosità e rappresentazione.
