Can the digital age jeopardize cultural and linguistic diversity?

The title of this session outlines one of the key topics discussed since a long time on UNESCO IFAP meetings and conferences. Several books and conference proceedings are dealing with the combined impact of the Internet web technology and the globalisation process. On June 2025 on the VII UNESCO IFAP International Conference Tangible and Intangible Impact of Information and Communication In the Digital Age a plenary session was entitled “Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in the Age of Information Technology”, experts from more than 20 countries debated, among the other topics, on IT for the preservation of languages and cultures, cost-driven multilingualism, how digital tech is reshaping language inclusion, the state of the art of linguistic diversity in the digital world, linguistic diversity in the world of artificial intelligence, revitalization of indigenous languages and last but not less relevant creative projects to support multilingualism.
