The study focuses on the development of the strategies for the design, production and construction of components for the façade and cladding systems of prefabricated type, and defined by structural, connective and functional “specialization” processes for frames, joints and enclosures elements. The analysis addresses the constitution of “integrated” and “multifunctional” components according to the application of DfMA (as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) and MMC (as Modern Methods of Construction) procedures as environmentally conscious design activities for the conception of the envelope systems. Specifically, the study examines the executive design methodologies (for manufacturing and construction) of the façade and cladding modules in accordance with the topology optimization methods, aimed at calibrating and optimizing the structural and connection elements, the architectural formulation and the environmental functioning (at energy, thermo-hygrometric, acoustic, light and air levels, with particular attention to the “passive” and “integrated” functional criteria). The advanced executive design methodologies, expressed at an experimental level, focus on the procedures aimed at developing the composition and prefabrication of the façade and cladding modules in a managed and controlled environment (at operational and technical-execution level), together with the optimization of the functional and physical-geometric properties of the components affecting assembly time.
