Eccezioni. Il caso dei Laboratori Tematici

This contribution examines the origins and evolution of the Thematic Studio within the Master’s Degree Programme in 'Architecture Built Environment Interiors' at Politecnico di Milano. Positioned in the third semester, the studio represents an 'exceptional' educational experience, serving as the final design studio before the thesis and as a point of synthesis between theoretical research and professional practice. The Thematic Studio embodies an alternative model to traditional architectural education: a platform for design research that brings together theory and practice, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and promotes a design culture capable of generating new questions. Herein lies its 'exceptional' character: it becomes a place where architecture engages with the complexity of reality and with the responsibility inherent in the act of designing.

Il contributo analizza la nascita e l’evoluzione del Laboratorio Tematico all’interno del corso magistrale in Architettura Ambiente Costruito Interni / Architecture Built Environment Interiors del Politecnico di Milano. Il laboratorio rappresenta un momento formativo “eccezionale” perché collocato al terzo semestre, come ultima esperienza progettuale prima della tesi e come punto di sintesi tra ricerca teorica e approccio professionale. Il Laboratorio Tematico incarna un modello alternativo alla didattica tradizionale: una piattaforma di ricerca progettuale che unisce teoria e prassi, favorisce la cooperazione tra discipline e alimenta una cultura del progetto capace di generare nuove domande. In questo risiede la sua “eccezionalità”: diventare luogo in cui l’architettura si misura con la complessità del reale e con la responsabilità del progettare.
