The paper proposes a vision of environmental and climate emergency management based on the active engagement of communities in spatial design and use, investigating the effectiveness of approaches based on shared knowledge, self-determination and spatial education. With a transformative reinterpretation of possible participatory practices, the classical conception of co-design is challenged rethinking it as a design tool sensitive to contemporary issues. The link between transformation projects of the existing – conducted by participatory processes – and environmental emergency is investigated: the former become a means of reconducting the activities of prevention and care of the everyday architecture (Harris, 1998), incorporating the latter within the design process and stimulating an architectural culture of realism and occasion, applicable to issues of environmental and urban emergency induced by climate change. Through the analysis of best practices, design strategies and tools adaptable to different contexts are explored: the development of a culture of profound re-invention of space (Bocchi, 2016) aims to identify strategies in heritage that orient both the designer and communities toward different temporali9es, ex-ante, infieri, and ex-post, toward a flexible proactivity regarding the environment and ways of inhabiting the existing (Stone, 2019) in response to the crisis of ordinary built environment.

Abstract
Through the analysis of best practices, design strategies and tools adaptable to different contexts are explored: the development of a culture of profound re-invention of space (Bocchi, 2016) aims to identify strategies in heritage that orient both the designer and communities toward different temporali9es, ex-ante, infieri, and ex-post, toward a flexible proactivity regarding the environment and ways of inhabiting the existing (Stone, 2019) in response to the crisis of ordinary built environment.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
