Founded in 1366, the Charterhouse of Calci is one of the most important examples of Carthusian monasteries in Italy. Its layout, deriving by the strict application of the “Rule”, founds here a characteristic adaptation to the morphology of the Graziosa Valley. The iconographic and cartographic sources – stored in situ, in the Grand Chartreuse of Grenoble and in other archives – have been fundamental in the study of the complex: their critical analysis, together with the study of the manuscript sources and the architectural surveys, has allowed to deepen the phases of development of the complex since its origins and to understand its role in the territorial context.

Abstract
Founded in 1366, the Charterhouse of Calci is one of the most important examples of Carthusian monasteries in Italy. Its layout, deriving by the strict application of the “Rule”, founds here a characteristic adaptation to the morphology of the Graziosa Valley. The iconographic and cartographic sources – stored in situ, in the Grand Chartreuse of Grenoble and in other archives – have been fundamental in the study of the complex: their critical analysis, together with the study of the manuscript sources and the architectural surveys, has allowed to deepen the phases of development of the complex since its origins and to understand its role in the territorial context.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
