Abstract
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is transforming human-machine interaction, revealing the need to rethink the approach to drawing within the context of design, based on the expressive potential of language. The city embodies, within its image, the complexity and contradictions of those who inhabit it. Every city has a soul, where traces of time accumulate like fragments, recombined by chance and clashing with the desire for an order capable of resolving its internal conflicts. Calvino’s Invisible Cities offers imaginary descriptions that have long fascinated architects and urban planners. Its surreal narrative, rich with allusions to the real challenges of contemporary cities, evokes an unresolved longing for an ideal world suspended between civitas and urbs. The text-to-image translation illustrates the ability of generative AI to reimagine urban imagery, transforming textual rhetoric into visual storytelling capable of expressing the city’s complexity and its contradictory dynamics. The expressive power of rhetorical figures is preserved in the graphic transposition of poetic descriptions. The structure and meanings of Calvino’s narrative –born from the dual need to reconcile material needs with existential ones, starting from an awareness of reality– explain the ongoing fascination between Calvino’s work and the world of architecture. His writing serves as a valuable reference for developing a conscious and reflective approach to drawing in the age of AI.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
