The advent of artificial intelligence (AI), combined with the ubiquity of digital sensors, computer networks, and automation that has characterised the past decade, is transforming the socioeconomic landscape and heralding the emergence of a potentially new industrial era. This evolution inevitably extends to the field of design, redefining the relationship between designers, designed systems, and users. These developments are shifting the emphasis from hardware to the growing flows of data connecting people, objects, services, and environments, making human–data interaction a key challenge for designers. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for exploring the relationship between design and the use of data, with the aim of anticipating the evolution of design tools and methods as the volume and performative potential of currently available information continue to increase.
L’avvento dell’intelligenza artificiale (IA) in combinazione con l’ubiquità dei sensori digitali, delle reti informatiche e dell’automazione che ha caratterizzato l’ultimo decennio, sta trasformando il contesto socioeconomico definendo una probabile nuova era industriale. Quest’evoluzione coinvolge inevitabilmente anche il mondo della progettazione ridefinendo il rapporto tra progettista, sistema progettato e utente. Questo sviluppo subordina il ruolo dell’hardware al crescente flusso di dati che lega persone, oggetti, servizi e ambienti, rendendo l’interazione uomo-dati una sfida fondamentale per i designer. In questo scritto si propone un quadro di riferimento che approfondisca il rapporto tra progettazione e l’utilizzo dei dati, col fine di anticipare l’evoluzione di strumenti e metodi progettuali all’aumentare della quantità e della performatività delle informazioni oggi disponibili.
