Ancient monuments were built following geometric practices that are now reconstructed matching survey, historical and structural research. This investigation was developed starting from the finding, in the Archivo de Indias in Seville (Spain), of the original plans for “a Cathedral” and for San Francisco Church in Santiago de Cuba. Geometric and technical similarities in the drawings were evident. Conclusions about proportions, measures and structures were drawn, discovering modular models used in colonial churches, based on classical architecture rules. Analogies and correspondences were found between the project drawn in Spain and the churches built over the Ocean.

Abstract
Ancient monuments were built following geometric practices that are now reconstructed matching survey, historical and structural research. This investigation was developed starting from the finding, in the Archivo de Indias in Seville (Spain), of the original plans for “a Cathedral” and for San Francisco Church in Santiago de Cuba. Geometric and technical similarities in the drawings were evident. Conclusions about proportions, measures and structures were drawn, discovering modular models used in colonial churches, based on classical architecture rules. Analogies and correspondences were found between the project drawn in Spain and the churches built over the Ocean.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
