The National Recovery and Resilience Plan has allocated a significant number of resources that will have both direct and indirect impacts on cultural heritage. As highlighted by other publications, thousands of funds have already been allocated for restoration interventions contributing to the achievement of Mission 1 of the Plan: «Digitalization, innovation, competitiveness, culture, and tourism». This contribution aims to investigate how many and which restoration projects are planned or currently underway, with particular attention to those focused on innovation. The goal is to provide a preliminary quantification and assessment of the ongoing operations on built heritage, understand their geographical distribution across the national territory. The contribution seeks to capture an intermediate phase of the Plan’s implementation to understand its emerging directions and orientations, which will need to be further verified upon the completion of the implementation process. Based on the latest monitoring data update, information was collected on projects involving built heritage, categorizing interventions according to funding lines, asset types, objectives, and location. Through a quantitative analysis of the collected data, preliminary reflections were made on the relationship between the mission's declared objectives and those of individual projects, as well as on the potential impacts on built heritage. Although partial and requiring long-term validation, the results of this research offer initial insights into the potential outcomes of this Plan for cultural heritage and the dynamics it may trigger across the Italian territory in relation to the desired «innovation» targeted by the mission under study.
