The growing interest in bio-based building materials, particularly those derived from agricultural residues, presents challenges in their evaluation using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies. Specifically, the existence of various approaches to modelling biogenic carbon and allocating agricultural co-products can result in misleading outcomes in LCA applications. This paper aims to provide clarity on the subject by reviewing existing methodologies and analysing literature case studies. The findings emphasize the need for transparency and standardization within the international community to overcome these limitations and promote a more sustainable built environment.

Abstract
The growing interest in bio-based building materials, particularly those derived from agricultural residues, presents challenges in their evaluation using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies. Specifically, the existence of various approaches to modelling biogenic carbon and allocating agricultural co-products can result in misleading outcomes in LCA applications. This paper aims to provide clarity on the subject by reviewing existing methodologies and analysing literature case studies. The findings emphasize the need for transparency and standardization within the international community to overcome these limitations and promote a more sustainable built environment.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
