The paper examines the residential reconfiguration of mountainous territories resulting from the sharing economy and digital platforms for short-term rentals. It argues that the researcher’s own sphere of personal experience provides a particularly valuable setting for investigating processes of territorial reconfiguration driven by the digital economy. The situated subjectivity of a researcher who engages with a digital platform as a user, through experiences of temporary residence, offers a means of understanding phenomena that would otherwise remain largely inaccessible to conventional territorial analysis. Indeed, the processes of reconfiguration under examination bring into focus the intimate dimensions of everyday routines, individual choices concerning residential mobility, and the temporary intersection of personal life trajectories. The paper develops reflections arising from three experiences of temporary residence for work-related purposes during the summers of 2022 and 2023, in three small mountain municipalities in Piedmont, Trentino, and Umbria, where accommodation was arranged through the Airbnb platform. Each experience sheds light on the reasons for temporarily leaving the metropolitan environment, the criteria guiding the search for accommodation, the characteristics of the hosts and the transformative interventions they undertook, and the spatial and temporal organisation of everyday life during the stay. The paper concludes by outlining the epistemological reorientation required in territorial analysis to address the user-centred logic underpinning digital forms of the collaborative economy.

Abstract
The paper concludes by outlining the epistemological reorientation required in territorial analysis to address the user-centred logic underpinning digital forms of the collaborative economy.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
