School choice has been often analysed as one of the man driver of the school ethnic and/or socio-economic composition, leading to concentration or school segregation. The instruments that families use to navigate the decision-making process and eventually make their choice, are quite neglected by the literature. In particular, there is quite little knowledge about what kind of information families access and through which channels. The current article suggests, through a mixed-method approach, an analysis of the main formal information instruments that are available to parents with children to be enrolled in primary or lower secondary school in the city of Milan. The contribution identifies the dimensions related to the informative contents and means that participate in exacerbating inequalities, but it also reflects on the potential role that the information policies can play in counteracting or hindering segregation dynamics. The method includes a content analysis of institutional information sources, a survey on the school choice that has targeted parents living in Milan and two case studies showing an interesting use of information tools and communication strategies to soften segregation

Abstract
The method includes a content analysis of institutional information sources, a survey on the school choice that has targeted parents living in Milan and two case studies showing an interesting use of information tools and communication strategies to soften segregation| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
