The analysis of gated communities (GC) and forms of urban segregation offers valuable insights into how spatial organization reflects and amplifies collective, cultural, and economic dynamics. Emerging in 1970s U.S., they rapidly spread globally, thriving in contexts of economic inequality and high crime rates, where security and isolation are prioritized. In Italy, GCs face unique urban and legislative challenges. Exemplified by Milan's San Felice (1965-1975), designed by Vico Magistretti and Luigi Caccia Dominioni, the project integrates architecture and landscape, balancing exclusivity and community. San Felice’s evolution—from a gated enclave to a semi-open neighborhood—reflects shifting social aspirations, intertwining modernity, nature, and collective memory, while questioning the sustainability of isolated urban models.
