Restauro del Grattacielo Pirelli: materiale di ricerca per nuovi approfondimenti

Restoration of the Pirelli Skyscraper: research material for new insights. After summarily recalling the accident that occurred in 2002 at the Pirelli skyscraper and retracing the different academic and professional personalities who contributed to the restoration of this important architecture of the second half of the twentieth century, the text agrees with the copious archival-design documentation connected to the implementation of the works. In fact, a significant amount of scientific-documentary material was produced on that occasion. In 2006, when the author made a first filing at an inventory level, he noted the heterogeneity and precariousness of conservation, which are described here. The essay clarifies, therefore, the archival criteria adopted at the time and the results obtained, partially proposing the contents. Therefore, the text is not only a list of the “archival units” filed, but also represents a warning against the dispersion of the documents produced during the restorations. Unpublished until now, this documentary summary “photographs” the situation in a precise historical moment of Lombard architecture and offers itself as a valuable research tool for anyone wishing to study the restoration of one of Gio Ponti’s main and best-known masterpieces.

Dopo aver sommariamente ricordato l’incidente avvenuto nel 2002 al Grattacielo Pirelli e ripercorso le differenti personalità accademiche e professionali che contribuirono alla realizzazione del restauro di questa importante architettura della seconda metà del Novecento, il testo dà ragione della copiosa documentazione archivistico-progettuale connessa all’attuazione dei lavori. In tale occasione fu infatti prodotta una mole significativa di materiali scientifico-documentari. Nel 2006, quando l’autore ne realizzò una prima schedatura a livello inventariale, rilevò eterogeneità e precarietà conservativa, che vengono qui descritte. Il saggio chiarisce, dunque, i criteri archivistici allora adottati e i risultati ottenuti, riproponendo parzialmente i contenuti. Il testo non costituisce pertanto solo una elencazione delle “unità archivistiche” schedate, ma rappresenta anche un monito contro la dispersione dei documenti prodotti in occasione dei restauri. Rimasto inedito sino ad ora, tale regesto documentario “fotografa” la situazione in un preciso momento storico dell’architettura lombarda e si offre come un prezioso strumento di ricerca per chi volesse studiare il restauro di uno dei principali e più noti capolavori di Gio Ponti.
