In this work, the authors address the challenges of modeling innovative thermal power generation systems in the energy transition context. Their peculiar designs and components call for a more flexible modeling environment. In this respect, Modelica language has emerged in the last years as a solid and reliable choice to model such power plants. Through the description of the SOS-CO2 cycle Modelica model, the strength of this approach is presented, showing the capabilities of a free and open-source software compared to closed-source commercial solutions.

Abstract

In this work, the authors address the challenges of modeling innovative thermal power generation systems in the energy transition context. Their peculiar designs and components call for a more flexible modeling environment. In this respect, Modelica language has emerged in the last years as a solid and reliable choice to model such power plants. Through the description of the SOS-CO2 cycle Modelica model, the strength of this approach is presented, showing the capabilities of a free and open-source software compared to closed-source commercial solutions.
