Introduction to the Declaration of Italian UNESCO Chairs for Sustainability

The writing of the Declaration of the Italian UNESCO Chairs for sustainability was one of the most exciting co-creation experiences within the project “Dialogues of UNESCO Chairs: a laboratory of ideas for the world to come”. In September 2021, the Commission for the Drafting of the Declaration was estab-lished, composed of eighteen members of eleven Chairs, who identified the strategy and tools to collect and combine the contributions of the Chairs, and simultaneously built an outline for the Declaration. The initial outline, through the intense work of debate within the Commission, and the continuous work of stimulating and receiving the indications from all the Chairs that were available to contribute, has gradually grown in content and specification, up to the draft version of the Declaration, which has seen further refinement during the final revision by all the Chairs. The Declaration was signed by the chairholders of all the UNESCO Chairs.
