This paper aims to deal with the importance of the recognition of the context in which Cultural Heritage is located. In order to carry out an useful and meaningful architecture project (regardless of whether the final result is achieved through restoration or re-construction), it is necessary to deeply know the background we are referring to: political, social, economic, cultural and historical. This needs to result in a deep knowledge of what is being worked on, starting from the object itself and its mechanical and structural composition, and parallel, to go beyond it, perceiving the more intrinsic meanings, both tangible and non-tangible, of the context to which it bears witness. Both object and its context are expression of the political, social, economic, historic and cultural changes that occurred through time and moulded the current situation: for this reason, International Organisations with the Countries themselves are enhancing more and more the role of both tangible and intangible CH management, for the overall comprehension of what is to be dealt with.
