This paper aims to investigate how did the re-construction processes dealt with the concept of authenticity of the de-stroyed historical centres after the Second World War, fuelling the contents of the Venice Charter, to define and de-scribe the parameters at the base of every project. After 1945, the situation of total disaster, and the resulting need for immediate re-construction, led to a reassess-ment of the principles of scientific restoration, of the theories pivoted on minimal intervention and neutral addition reiterated in the Athens Charter. It was a question of re-building entire portions of a city and not just consolidating small parts of a monument. The theoretical acquisitions emerged during the post Second World War re-building phase were the subject of the meeting promoted in 1964 in Venice, during the 2nd International Congress of Archi-tects and Technicians of Historic Monuments, becoming the first international document in which general principles for the protection of monuments were crystallised.

Abstract
This paper aims to investigate how did the re-construction processes dealt with the concept of authenticity of the de-stroyed historical centres after the Second World War, fuelling the contents of the Venice Charter, to define and de-scribe the parameters at the base of every project. After 1945, the situation of total disaster, and the resulting need for immediate re-construction, led to a reassess-ment of the principles of scientific restoration, of the theories pivoted on minimal intervention and neutral addition reiterated in the Athens Charter. It was a question of re-building entire portions of a city and not just consolidating small parts of a monument. The theoretical acquisitions emerged during the post Second World War re-building phase were the subject of the meeting promoted in 1964 in Venice, during the 2nd International Congress of Archi-tects and Technicians of Historic Monuments, becoming the first international document in which general principles for the protection of monuments were crystallised.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
