In order to minimize the impact of electric vehicle (EV) charging on the electric grid, it is essential to implement new software-based services such as smart charging and demand response. This paper introduces a simulation framework to evaluate and validate these new services, focusing on two levels of impact: charging scheduling at a macroscopic level and delving into the specific actions of the charging stations. This paper concentrates on the latter and proposes a Hardware in the Loop (HIL) model that integrates three components: the information technology (IT) aspect, the power grid aspect and the behavior of the battery charger subsystem. It presents an original methodology and validates it with various usage scenarios highlighting the effects of EV charging on grid stability.

Abstract
In order to minimize the impact of electric vehicle (EV) charging on the electric grid, it is essential to implement new software-based services such as smart charging and demand response. This paper introduces a simulation framework to evaluate and validate these new services, focusing on two levels of impact: charging scheduling at a macroscopic level and delving into the specific actions of the charging stations. This paper concentrates on the latter and proposes a Hardware in the Loop (HIL) model that integrates three components: the information technology (IT) aspect, the power grid aspect and the behavior of the battery charger subsystem. It presents an original methodology and validates it with various usage scenarios highlighting the effects of EV charging on grid stability.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
