Recently, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and SAR Interferometry (InSAR) have been extensively used for several earthquake engineering applications. This paper, for the first time, offers a short comprehensive review on the use of SAR and InSAR processing for earthquake engineering applications. The most common SAR and InSAR processing techniques, and applications for faulting mechanism modelling and damage detection have been carefully reviewed through literature. Several technical aspects and challenges of SAR and InSAR products are assessed, and possible solutions, potentials, and current/future perspectives of SAR and InSAR for earthquake applications are discussed in detail. The paper significantly contributes to the intuitive recognition of the key role of SAR images for earthquake engineering applications; not only for co-event and post-earthquake evaluations but also for discovering the precursors.
