In the 1920s, Vkhutemas was established in the heart of Moscow as a Higher State Art and Technical Institute in the new post-revolutionary Soviet Russia. Comparable in many respects to the better-known Bauhaus, it became a laboratory for experimentation and innovation, seeking new ways of combining art and technology while pursuing a modern conception of design in which aesthetics increasingly converged with the world of industrial production. Vkhutemas was not only an educational institution but also a museum, an exhibition space, and a network of workshops in which experimentation and creative practice developed side by side. On the centenary of its foundation, the PhD Programme in Architecture and Construction (DRACo) at Sapienza University of Rome revisits the distinctive, albeit short-lived, experience of this innovative institution through two complementary lines of investigation. A theoretical reflection on the museum of the twenty-first century is accompanied by design proposals for a new Archive-Museum dedicated to the Vkhutemas School. Developed through collaboration between faculty members and doctoral researchers, these projects seek to bring the legacy of this unique artistic, educational, and design experience back to life in the new millennium.

Abstract
Developed through collaboration between faculty members and doctoral researchers, these projects seek to bring the legacy of this unique artistic, educational, and design experience back to life in the new millennium.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
