Vittorio Faglia restauratore: pensiero e prassi operativa nei progetti di restauro di architetture fortificate. Il caso del castello di Bianzano (1960-1963)

The restoration project of the Castel of Bianzano, developed by architect and engineer Vittorio Faglia (1914-2011), whose works began in 1960, and concluded three years later, foreshadows some principles expressed in the Venice Charter in 1964. The contribution to this conference proposes an examination of the ideas expressed by the work of Faglia to the discussion on the practice of restauration in 1960s, highlighting his personal interpretation of the principles expressed by the Charter. The contribution delves into the issues and peculiarities of the restoration of fortified and defensive architectures, to which Faglia dedicated his life and career, as a professional and as founder, in 1964, of the Italian Institute of Castle, examining his position on the matter of use, as well as the evolution of his expressive language.
