The electrical load curve, representing electricity consumption in a power system over time, results from the aggregation of the power demand of the consumers in the system. We propose a method relying on blind source separation and functional data analysis to disaggregate the load curve in consumer groups' contributions. Applied to Italian zones from 2018 to 2022, our method succeeds in identifying clusters of consumers with similar consumption profiles and estimate their contribution to the load.

Abstract

The electrical load curve, representing electricity consumption in a power system over time, results from the aggregation of the power demand of the consumers in the system. We propose a method relying on blind source separation and functional data analysis to disaggregate the load curve in consumer groups' contributions. Applied to Italian zones from 2018 to 2022, our method succeeds in identifying clusters of consumers with similar consumption profiles and estimate their contribution to the load.
