The flexural behaviour of precast concrete thin-walled open-section wing-shaped roof members is influenced by second order effects induced by the progressive opening of the wings. However, the complexity of this phenomenon is such that in practical design this effect is neglected, confining at best to few complex finite element elaborations the study of limited recurrent structural typologies. The present paper illustrates an analytical method devoted to the formulation and the calibration of simplified design formulae for the estimation of second order actions and an aware framing of this design issue. The theoretical methodology is applied to a case study Ondal roof member. Moreover, advanced numerical analyses are used to validate the proposed calculation procedure.

Abstract
The flexural behaviour of precast concrete thin-walled open-section wing-shaped roof members is influenced by second order effects induced by the progressive opening of the wings. However, the complexity of this phenomenon is such that in practical design this effect is neglected, confining at best to few complex finite element elaborations the study of limited recurrent structural typologies. The present paper illustrates an analytical method devoted to the formulation and the calibration of simplified design formulae for the estimation of second order actions and an aware framing of this design issue. The theoretical methodology is applied to a case study Ondal roof member. Moreover, advanced numerical analyses are used to validate the proposed calculation procedure.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
