This paper analyses the postwar planning and development of the city of Portsmouth, UK, during the early 1940s. By doing so, it traces the process of Replanning in the city and places it into its ideological planning context at both national and international level. Initially, replanning is succinctly contextualized. A discussion of Portsmouth’s particular vision follows, through the analysis of primary sources drafted during the 1940s. Specifically, F. A. C. Maunder’s Interim Report (1943) – the pinnacle of nearly three years of research and design.
