Artificial intelligence is redefining the concept of “living together”, shifting the focus of design beyond the human towards a broader understanding of relationships between humans, non-humans, and artificial agents. This essay explores the implications of design that embraces the more-than-human paradigm, examining how AI can generate new forms of multispecies coexistence, transform power dynamics, and redefine design practices. Through a critical analysis, the essay challenges the limitations of user-centred approaches and proposes a reconceptualisation of design as an ecological and relational practice. Drawing on the work of experimental artists and designers, it explores forms of collaboration with AI that move beyond technical optimisation, opening up possibilities for co-creation and mutual transformation. The essay also addresses emerging ethical and political issues, ranging from digital extractivism and the reinforcement of biases in generative models to the construction of fluid computational identities. Finally, it advances a vision of design in which AI is not merely a tool but an agent with which we must learn to coexist critically and consciously, in order to shape more inclusive and sustainable futures.

Abstract
Finally, it advances a vision of design in which AI is not merely a tool but an agent with which we must learn to coexist critically and consciously, in order to shape more inclusive and sustainable futures.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
