The exploration of minor bodies offers insights into the solar system’s origins and potential resources. Small satellites are becoming more appealing for close proximity mission since they are cost-effective. However, traditional trajectory design methods are labor-intensive and rigid. This paper presents a novel methodology using sequential convex programming to compute goal-oriented trajectories for spacecraft with continuous thrust systems in close proximity operations. The approach integrates engineering constraints and scientific objectives, demonstrating effectiveness through simulations of non-Keplerian and closed orbits around asteroids. The flexibility and efficiency of the method mark a significant advancement in optimal trajectory planning for minor body exploration.

Abstract
The exploration of minor bodies offers insights into the solar system’s origins and potential resources. Small satellites are becoming more appealing for close proximity mission since they are cost-effective. However, traditional trajectory design methods are labor-intensive and rigid. This paper presents a novel methodology using sequential convex programming to compute goal-oriented trajectories for spacecraft with continuous thrust systems in close proximity operations. The approach integrates engineering constraints and scientific objectives, demonstrating effectiveness through simulations of non-Keplerian and closed orbits around asteroids. The flexibility and efficiency of the method mark a significant advancement in optimal trajectory planning for minor body exploration.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
