Given the pivotal role of supplier interrelationships in project-based contexts and the limited attention they have received, this study aims to understand the real-world situation of supplier interrelationships in project-based contexts and to draw insights into implications for buying companies. Adopting social capital theory as a theoretical lens, three semi-structured interviews are conducted to explore the nature of supplier interrelationships including existence, motivations, initiators, and their impact on buyers, providing implications regarding opportunities and threats for buyers. The findings contribute to both theoretical understanding and managerial practice, offering valuable guidance for effectively managing supplier relationships in project-based contexts.
