As previously noted, 'culture as culture' has its own purpose and its own societal responsibility, and this purpose demands freedom (Zagrebelsky, 2014:28). Out of all publishing products, independent magazines best embody the values of freedom of thought and multiversity in all its various aspects. This is partly why indie magazines deserve their renewed interest, but also because they offer an opportunity for transdisciplinary education. This opportunity is linked to content translation and project culture understood as a socio-political action designed to foster critical thinking and co-participation. In this article, following an initial attempt to define independent magazines as catalysts in shaping social reality, we present a series of educational experiments that translate the concept of a sense of belonging/not belonging to certain social groups through the content and material of a printed magazine. In addition to serving as cultural tractors and activators, independent magazines can serve as a formative experience of collaborative synthesis, which facilitates the construction of new interpretations of societal reality, and, in some cases, the identification of fresh opportunities and strategies for change.
