At the turn of the century, the transcription of memories into codified forms has gone through major renovations, which some recent and ongoing phenomena are further processing. This article aims at reflecting on the current evolution of the design of memorials, and in particular at highlighting how the latest transformations in the project of monuments can be described through the oscillations between compression and decompression that seem to have become a paradigm of contemporary socio-cultural scenarios.
