The strict environmental policies aiming to reduce emissions are changing the perspectives of mobility. Trans-portation sector is contributing in this switch, with solutions designed to be implemented to achieve the targets. Also railway sector must contribute to this change through BEMU. Some European countries have already adopted this solution, but in Italy this technology is not yet used, despite efforts in ease its implementation. This paper provides a charging solution to allow the implementation of BEMU in the Italian railway network. First, a general overview on the different charging options is given. Secondly, a power supply system is designed to solve technical criticality. Finally, a preliminary economic analysis is provided to evaluate the feasibility of the solution proposed with the actual service status.
