Abstract

The distance that separates “Can our cities survive?” and “The Hearth of the City” is reconsidered in the light of reconstruction plans in Italy, in which the redesign of the central places is a recurring feature, from the most modest to the most ambitious declinations. They are representative of the perspective of “continuity” that after World War II brings together the re-evaluation of the relational richness of the historical city with the search for the spatial quality of the Modern.
