In recent years, the classic Journey (Grand Tour)—whether seen as a mode of learning or a design-oriented practice—has significantly changed in meaning. This shift is largely due to the rise of low-cost travel, easy access to digital images, and the effects of cultural globalization. The increase in student exchange programs, extending beyond Europe, has blurred the lines regarding context, social readiness, and interaction. This contribution reports on a PhD course designed to address these challenges by enhancing cultural awareness within the city or region being studied through careful case study selection. The course, titled "Architecture as Conceived and Built," was jointly taught in May 2018, 2019, and 2020 at the Department of Architecture, Built Environment, and Construction Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. This paper reflects on our own "journeys with a purpose," which were essential in refining our teaching methods and organizing course activities effectively.

Abstract
This paper reflects on our own "journeys with a purpose," which were essential in refining our teaching methods and organizing course activities effectively.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
