On the background of global risks, the food theme is focused for Milan and its region: here it is a historical theme, relaunched by Milan Expo 2015. Emerging strategies for agriculture multifunctionality, cooperation networks, short supply chains, production and service innovation are discussed. The role of the metropolitan rural activities is crucial for promoting the integrated development of the territory and ecosystem. The relation of the urban agriculture with the Milan landscape identity is pointed out, since ever in hybrid balance between the northern industrial dry plain and the southern rural wet plain. The influence of the agri-food system and its logistics on the territory texture is not relegated to the past but it continues today in the new landscapes emerging from regeneration interventions.
