The rise in popularity of video-based learning within educational models such as the flipped classroom has been remarkable. However, there are two limitations. The first is that instructors only become aware of how students have absorbed the educational content during the in-person session (or, in other educational models, only at the final exam); the second is that videos are quite passive tools. To address these challenges, we propose the implementation of Evoli, a video-annotation tool, that on one side collects data logs and students’ feedback (on their level of understanding, doubts or questions) thus promoting their engagement and on the other offers all these data to the instructor via comprehensive dashboards, enabling them to gain real-time understanding of student involvement and customize their teaching methods accordingly. Though still in protype version, Evoli has been used by more than 500 students in real life context at a technical university.
