The paper presents an overview of current training endeavours for technology-related/professional skill acquisition in immersive environments together with educational/training needs that emerge from the literature. The aim is to establish a general framework for the design and development of educational initiatives for lifelong learners, both HEI students and professional. The paper details how immersive technologies enable a wide variety of skills (e.g. psychomotor, spatial, procedural, decisional skills) to be acquired and trained while reducing the costly and risky conditions of on the field training. On the other hand, the framework will also display how the immersive technologies might trigger high engagement and motivation in active/student-centred learning contexts, making them suitable to provide meaningful learning experiences for the largest possible variety of learning styles, which are vital to ensure lifelong learning and embrace the principles of pedagogy and andragogy.

Abstract
The paper presents an overview of current training endeavours for technology-related/professional skill acquisition in immersive environments together with educational/training needs that emerge from the literature. The aim is to establish a general framework for the design and development of educational initiatives for lifelong learners, both HEI students and professional. The paper details how immersive technologies enable a wide variety of skills (e.g. psychomotor, spatial, procedural, decisional skills) to be acquired and trained while reducing the costly and risky conditions of on the field training. On the other hand, the framework will also display how the immersive technologies might trigger high engagement and motivation in active/student-centred learning contexts, making them suitable to provide meaningful learning experiences for the largest possible variety of learning styles, which are vital to ensure lifelong learning and embrace the principles of pedagogy and andragogy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
