The effects of corrosion vary according to the environment aggressive conditions. Several tests on corroded members in the literature use artificial corrosion, whereas a few have considered natural conditions. The paper tackles a comparison of the results for deteriorated RC columns, in order to understand the aspects of the response of members in a real structure related to the assessment of capacity and ultimate deformation. The issues investigated are the type of corrosion attack, the corrosion morphology for the reinforcement, reinforcement ultimate elongation, cracking and spalling of the cover and core concrete, the occurrence of stirrup breaking and longitudinal reinforcement buckling and bond deterioration effects. Conclusions are drawn on the differences of the artificial and natural corrosion results, and their use for model calibration.
