Significant example of asylum architecture of the first half of the twentieth century, the Paolo Pini P.H. was built after a long design process begun in 1904. The essay, which reconstructs the historical-decision-making events of the new great “Astanteria of the city of Milan”, pays particular attention to the changes that took place after World War II, which transformed the ancient P.H. in an authoritative museum of contemporary art and a strategic cultural resource of the contemporary world.
