Architectural Green and Depression

The rapid aging of the global population is creating geriatric depression, and the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation, causing older individuals to avoid social interactions and outdoor activities. Therefore, the impact of interior building design on the health of older adults becomes especially significant. This paper examines the literature on the therapeutic benefits of incorporating natural green elements indoors and outdoors to mitigate depression in older adults. The findings highlight the benefits of promoting human contact with nature and how architectural design can help bringing it indoors, thus creating an architectural green.
