In the 1055, every aspect of the "lamp" was reinvented, from modularity of its 7 elements (including the recidal aluminium alloy stems, fibreglass reflector, foot and cable) available in 9 different table, floor and wall configurations, up to its packaging, which was also patented (1055/s box): decades of successful models would later derive from this project. The Compasso d'Oro recognised and awarded the 1055 for Sarfatti's work as an entrepreneur and designer, who was capable of renewing - without distorting - the priize won just a year earlier, and managed to support increasing production volumes without sacrificing the high level of quality and experimentation.
