NELLE CASE. MILAN INTERIORS 1928-1978

The book records research that began in 2018: since then, some houses have been sold, others demolished, many renovated. After all, transforming is the destiny of all inhabited spaces, starting with the changing nature of those who live there, their needs and desires. The home is also a private place par excellence: it is not always possible to enter it to visit, document and photograph. Our research was mainly carried out in archives, libraries, and in the pages of magazines. More than three hundred interiors realized in Milan in the fifty years following the birth of Domus and Casabella were taken into consideration, of which we selected two hundred and twenty-five. The projects have been grouped around fifty-five themes that are as many interpretative hypotheses. This overall grid is punctuated by twelve theoretical openings: prologue, epilogue and ten topics to which we have entrusted the task of contextualizing the passage of years. All this is documented by more than one thousand six hundred images. Of these one hundred and thirty are floor plans. In addition to the floor plans, hundreds of images including black-and-white and colour photographs, sketches and original drawings have been collected.
