The construction sector has a significant impact on the environment, as it contributes to resource depletion, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste generation, but also has the potential to promote sustainability through the use of environmentally-friendly materials and technologies. The use of bio-based materials in buildings is growing due to increased demand for sustainable alternatives to traditional synthetic products, and also for their CO2 storage capacity. The paper deals with how biogenic carbon accounting of buildings and construction products is assessed in LCA, through a study based on European standards and a literature review.

Abstract
The construction sector has a significant impact on the environment, as it contributes to resource depletion, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste generation, but also has the potential to promote sustainability through the use of environmentally-friendly materials and technologies. The use of bio-based materials in buildings is growing due to increased demand for sustainable alternatives to traditional synthetic products, and also for their CO2 storage capacity. The paper deals with how biogenic carbon accounting of buildings and construction products is assessed in LCA, through a study based on European standards and a literature review.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
