Life cycle assessment of post-consumer textiles waste management: a review about the main variables that influence the environmental benefits of reuse and recycling

In the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles is highlighted the role of the end-of-life of textiles waste, that must follow the waste hierarchy. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an effective tool to quantify the benefits of the reuse models and of the different recycling technologies. This work is a review about LCA of post-consumer textiles waste: papers from literature are analysed and classified according to goal and scope, functional unit, waste composition, impact assessment method, impact categories, and type of sensitivity analysis. The aim of this study is to investigate which are the main variables that influence the environmental performances of textiles waste management systems and that must be taken into account in the future research.
