The present paper deals with the development of a hierarchical Energy Management System (EMS) for the Unit Commitment of a single-bus system (PV-BESS) that can participate in the Italian Electricity Day-Ahead (DAM) and Intra-Day (IDM) markets while simultaneously satisfying an internal load. The proposed EMS is divided into two layers of control: the first layer, which handles medium-term operations, evaluates the optimal unit commitment and provides the sequential bidding strategy based on forecasts of photovoltaic and internal loads for the following 24 hours; the second layer, responsible for real-time power sharing, adjusts the set points of the energy storage system to follow the reference trajectory established by the first layer.
