While the field of virtual content creation has made significant strides, the development of mechanisms to support the instructional design of educational experiences is still in its early stages. However, it is clear that an effective educational experience is not just about the content itself, but also about the activities that complement it. This paper presents a research project that focuses on the development of advanced mechanisms of interaction in educational experiences using mixed reality. The project examines how mixed reality can support collaborative projects that take place both in-person and remotely over a certain length of time. The paper presents the whole concept of activities to support remote project work and then focuses on a specific activity, the “brainstorming of ideas”, and its design, implementation and testing, in real-life context, both from the usability and perceived usefulness points of view.
